Sermons On Philippians (Chapter 1)
Though the Apostle Paul had a difficult life, he was happy. The joy of the Lord sustained him and made him stand out in a crowd. Today, many folks are experiencing trials and troubles that threaten to steal their joy. Does the Bible have an answer for how to be happy right in the middle of life’s messes?
We titled our series on Philippians, "Joy in the Midst of Life," because in the four short chapters (104 verses) of this book, the Apostle Paul speaks of joy, gladness, and rejoicing sixteen different times! Apparently, it is a Christian duty for everyone to be as happy as he can. But God’s answer is not simply to smile until our cheeks hurt. Even Jesus wept while he was here. We all have problems and pains in this fallen world. We must not flippantly rejoice when there is real sorrow to be grieved. But neither can we ignore our duty to move further up and further in to the joy of knowing God. This series is about experiencing the confidence and contentment that come from knowing that if God is for you, none can stand against you.
